Join open group trips around the world

Join multi-day group trips already in motion — Bali surf weeks, Lisbon nomad weekends, Himalaya treks, Barcelona rooftop runs. See itinerary, members, budget and dates upfront. One tap to request to join, no awkward Facebook DMs.

Explore

Share rooms and split costs with travelers

Post a room you're offering or a stay you need with budget, dates, gender preference and stay type (private, shared, hostel, co-living). Travelers nearby see your listing instantly and message you directly. Cheaper than booking platforms, friendlier than classifieds.

Build a real solo travel community

Solo travel doesn't have to be lonely. Post a hangout for tonight's dinner, this weekend's surf trip, or next month's coworking week. The map view shows who's around right now and who's planning ahead — so making friends abroad takes minutes, not weeks.

Explore

Backpacker-friendly trips, hostels and routes

Travel Heist is built for backpackers — flexible dates, low budgets, multi-stop routes. Find a partner for the Banana Pancake Trail in Southeast Asia, the Balkans loop, or a cross-country bus run in South America. Cheap, real and unscripted.

Wherever you're plugging your laptop in next — Lisbon, Bali, Medellín, Chiang Mai — Travel Heist surfaces the active nomad scene. Join coworking days, weekend hikes and dinner meetups posted by travelers in your city this week.

Four ways to travel together — pick the one that fits your week

Travel Heist isn't another booking site. It's a community of solo travelers, backpackers and digital nomads matching up around real plans — from a 30-minute coffee to a four-week trip. Here's how each format works, when to use it, and the kind of plans you'll find.

Group trips

Multi-day journeys, planned together

A group of travelers booking flights, accommodation and itinerary around the same destination and dates. Trips run from a long weekend to multi-week routes, with a clear start and end date and a member cap so the group stays small enough to actually bond.

Best for
Solo travelers who want company on a real adventure — Himalayas, island hops, road trips, festival circuits.
Typical length
3 days – 4 weeks
Real examples
Bali surf week · Patagonia loop · Iceland ring road

Events

Scheduled meetups for travelers in town

A specific meetup with a date, time and venue — a rooftop party, salsa class, hike, museum night, sunset boat ride. Open to anyone in the city on that day. RSVP tells the host how many to expect, and you can chat with attendees beforehand.

Best for
Travelers and locals who want to plug into a city for an evening or weekend.
Typical length
2 hours – 1 day
Real examples
Lisbon viewpoint sunset · Tokyo ramen crawl · Berlin techno night

Hangouts

Casual today-or-tomorrow plans

The lightest format — coffee in 30 minutes, lunch tomorrow, a sunset walk. No commitment, no planning. Just open your map, see who's posted a hangout near you, tap to join. Perfect for breaking the ice when you've just landed somewhere new.

Best for
Solo travelers who want to make friends abroad without committing to a full trip.
Typical length
30 min – a few hours
Real examples
Coworking lunch in Canggu · Coffee in Kreuzberg · Beach walk in Tulum

Rooms & stays

Share a place, split the cost

Post a room you're offering — spare bed, hostel slot, co-living — or a stay you need. Set the budget, dates, gender preference and property type. Other travelers in the same city see your listing and message you directly to coordinate.

Best for
Travelers wanting cheaper, friendlier accommodation than hotels — and a built-in flatmate or local guide.
Typical length
1 night – 6 months
Real examples
Spare room in Madrid · Hostel mate in Hanoi · Co-living week in Medellín

FAQ

Questions, answered

How do I find travel buddies on Travel Heist?+

Sign up free, set your destination and travel dates, and browse open trips, events and hangouts in any city. Filter by gender, age, budget and travel style — then message verified travelers directly.

Is Travel Heist free to use?+

Yes. Creating an account, finding travel buddies, joining group trips, posting rooms and chatting are all free. We may offer optional premium features in the future.

Is it safe to meet travelers from the app?+

Every profile is verified by phone or email. You can block and report users, turn off location sharing, and pick female-only groups. Always meet in public for first hangouts.

Do I need the mobile app to find travel partners?+

You can browse trips and destinations on the web. Real-time chat, push notifications, live map and location-aware feeds are best on the iOS or Android app.

How does room sharing work for travelers?+

Post that you need a stay or offer one. Set your budget, dates, gender and stay type (private, shared or flexible). We match you with nearby listings and let you chat with hosts directly.

What's the difference between a trip, event and hangout?+

Trips are multi-day journeys with a group. Events are scheduled meetups (a concert, rooftop party, hike). Hangouts are casual today or tomorrow meetups — coffee, lunch, walks.

Which cities have an active travel community?+

Travel Heist is live globally with the strongest communities in Lisbon, Bali, Bangkok, CDMX, Barcelona, Istanbul, Tokyo and Berlin — and growing fast in 120+ cities.

Can solo travelers join group trips?+

Absolutely — most travelers on Travel Heist are solo travelers looking for partners for group trips, day events or shared rooms. You can join any open trip with one tap.

Is there a travel buddy app for women travelers?+

Travel Heist supports female-only filters on every trip, room and event. Hosts can mark a plan as women-only and Travel Heist hides it from male profiles. Combine that with phone-or-email verification, optional ghost mode and instant block + report — and you have a safer way to meet other women travelers abroad.

How do I find a travel partner for Bali, Lisbon or Bangkok in the next month?+

Open the destination page, switch the date filter to the month you're going, and you'll see every traveler who's already RSVP'd, every trip that's recruiting, every room being shared and every event scheduled. Tap any traveler to chat or request to join their plan — no DMs to strangers needed.

Is it safe to share a room with a traveler from the app?+

Every host and guest on Travel Heist is identity-verified by phone or email. Listings show the host's profile, past activity, mutual connections and reviews from previous travelers. You can decline anyone, message before committing, and pick gender-restricted listings (women-only, men-only or any). Always read the listing carefully and meet the host on a video call before transferring any money.

How is Travel Heist different from Couchsurfing, BackpackR or Facebook travel groups?+

Travel Heist combines the four travel use cases that are usually scattered across separate apps and groups: finding travel buddies, joining group trips, sharing rooms, and meeting travelers in real time. It runs on a verified profile system with real-time chat, push notifications and a live map — none of which Facebook groups or classified-style sites offer. And there are no ads cluttering your feed.

Do I need to plan a trip first to use the app?+

No. The most active users on Travel Heist are nomads and backpackers who don't have a fixed plan — they post hangouts, join existing trips, and let the community shape their week. Open the app, set your current city, and start browsing what's already happening around you.

How does the gender preference filter work for trips and rooms?+

When you create a trip or post a room, you choose the audience: any, women-only or men-only. The plan is hidden from anyone outside that audience. We also let you set group-level age ranges and language requirements so you only attract travelers who actually fit your style.

Can I post a trip, event or room from the website?+

Posting and managing plans is faster on the iOS or Android app — you'll need camera access for photos, push notifications for replies, and the live map for matching with nearby travelers. Browsing, RSVP'ing and chatting work on the web too.

Does Travel Heist work for budget travelers and backpackers?+

Yes — every trip, room and event lets the host set a budget upfront so you only see plans that match what you can afford. The community skews backpacker / nomad / Gen-Z, so most plans are budget-conscious by default: hostels, shared rooms, public transport, street food, free walking tours.

Can I find travel buddies for a specific activity like hiking, surfing or diving?+

Yes. Trip and event tags include surfing, diving, hiking, climbing, festivals, retreats, road trips, food tours and more. Filter by tag in any city and you'll see every plan recruiting around that activity.

Are trips and events on Travel Heist organized by tour companies?+

No — every trip, event and hangout is created by another traveler in the community, not a tour operator. That keeps groups small (usually 2–10 people), prices low, and the vibe more friendship-than-tourism. Travel Heist is a community-led travel app, not a booking platform.

Can I use Travel Heist while I'm already on the road?+

That's actually when most travelers use it most. The map view shows who's near you right now, hangouts are designed for today-or-tomorrow plans, and push notifications make sure you don't miss a meetup invite while you're sightseeing. Use it as your nightly 'what's happening tonight?' app.
